O Henry became one of the most successful short story writers in all literature.
Earlier in his life he worked as a pharmacist, bank clerk, accountant, journalist and was arrested for stealing from a bank he worked for. He escaped to Honduras but returned to the USA when he discovered that his wife was dying.
He had to go to prison for three years...
